christian brothers insurance

Why aren’t Christians more economically liberal?
Jesus said, “Blessed are the poor.” “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.” And ‘”To the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.”
And in Acts 4, the disciples lived in what can only be described as a commune.
So what’s the big hangup over providing social services like public schools and public health insurance? Or closing tax loopholes for the wealthiest Americans?
Mark H, I agree with you. I also agree mostly with the person asking the question.
Let me tell you about one of the men I believe is still to this day one of Jesus’ disciples even though he preached Never put me on a pedestal because the fall is a long way down.
In my first marriage my family of five were very very poor. It came to the point of my children not having eaten in a couple of days. 20 yrs ago getting welfare was a month long process and we had started that but needed food.
My husband was either brave or stupid but he rode around with me for a while pleading and believing God would not let us go hungry.
He stopped and told me to come with him and he knocked on a complete stranger’s door. He said, mister we are hungry and have 3 children, can you please help us?
The man opened his door and his heart and invited us in introducing us to his wife and giving his name with no title. I get choked up every time I remember this. We talked with his wife…no pressure or preaching just pleasant talk and she walked us into the kitchen where the man was literally emptying his cabinets into paper bags with a smile on his face. He even gave us refrigerated items. Never a frown, never being nosy. He comforted us and asked if we would join them in a short prayer where he said we were all His children and we knew this was not from man but from God and he was privileged to be the door that God sent us to.
As we were driving away, filled with wonder that a man could be so generous asking nothing in return. We passed a nearby church with the name of the pastor being the name of the man who helped us.
We joined the church and taught and helped in anyway we could, those were the happiest 5 years of my life. Our pastor encouraged the congregation to build a new church. Wheelbarrows were pushed up and down the isles on Sunday. Members helped provide the labor and we built the most beautiful church in town. Unfortunately the deacons disagreed on many things and the church split up.
Our pastor started again at a small church with mixed congregation and from there…
There are many many wonderful Christians in this world and while we are told to pray for our leaders I don’t agree with what the government is doing with giving more money to anyone but rather, as I’ve always felt, providing more and more education and jobs.
My idea is probably full of holes, but I feel like the wealthy over a certain amount and the marketing/advertising for large business’s should be made (or even willing) to pay for equal time for public service (education that will reach all) for every TV commercial and/or ad they place. A little education is certainly better than none at all. I know a lot of companies and wealthy give and help the poor, but how many Really try to help them stand on their own?
